about
I am Valerie Carr, a slow stitch embroiderer and watercolour painter. I create repeat patterns from my original watercolours and print them digitally onto fabric, usually linen, to use in my slow stitch projects. Historical textiles, old haberdashery and the skilfull hand sewing techniques of the past fascinate me. I think it is because the makers of the past were always 'hands on'. Each piece of work would have been created by an individual maker who had pushed their soul into the fabric as they worked. Inevitably the 'signature' of the maker is visible in their work. With this idea vaguely in mind, I am always on the look out for an atmosphere to surface in every project.
